Every now and then, a child acting performance comes along that stops you in your tracks. Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine), Jacob Tremblay (Room) and Haley Joel Osment (Sixth Sense) immediately come to mind.
But few tap into a cultural moment like the character that Ryder Allen portrays in 'Palmer' on Apple TV+. It's one that reminds us of the narrow-minded, less-accepting souls that still exist in many parts of this country. 
Just one reason why Ryder's performance is so important. The other is that he does such a good job with it. Worth watching, if just to see what this talented eight-year-old can do.
