As a badass fighting racist monsters (and actual monsters) in 1950s America, Jurnee Smollett shines in HBO's thrilling 'Lovecraft Country.' I knew very little about Smollett before writing this one (other than the fact that she shared a last name with Jussie Smollett), but there's something about watching her on screen that demands your attention.
I soon learned that Smollett has been acting almost her whole life, but she's having a moment now for sure because of 'Lovecraft's' timely themes – given the horror show that is life in America right now for people of color.
Smollett's performance is well worthy of attention. Here's a little about it.
